Food fuels us. Food makes us feel good. As gamers, and human beings, we sometimes don't have the time to prepare and eat a fulfilling meal. I want to help you change that.
In real life I am a Firefighter/Paramedic. We work 24 hour shifts which essentially makes the firehouse my second home. As a station crew we eat, work, train, sleep, and live together for 24 hours at a time. Notice how I put "eat" at the beginning of that list? That list is in no particular order of importance except for eating. Food is a major component of daily life at the firehouse. At the beginning of our tour we check our trucks and ambulances, clean the station, and scrounge what we have for leftovers to whip together a quick breakfast. The next and most immediate order of business after that - the shopping list and planning our meals.
Contrary to popular belief as firefighters we do not just sit around all day watching TV, sleep, and play ping pong. That is only when we have time to enjoy those luxuries. We are almost constantly on the move responding to car wrecks, medical calls in homes, and fighting fires. This leaves us little time to prepare the meals that we have planned for.
I could continue on and on about our daily activities and such but the parallel I'm trying to draw is this: as firefighters we have short periods of time to prepare meals - as gamers we have short periods of time as well. We've all been there. Trying to sneak a quick meal into the microwave between rounds because the time to prepare a proper meal does not coincide with our desire to fill our little free time with clearing our backlog of games or reaching the newest level cap.Let me try and bring this connection home. Preparing a meal for multiple people on short periods of time has made cooking at home that much easier. Many people think that cooking a good meal takes long periods of time. It does not. I want to bring you recipes that I've developed for the guys (and gals) at the firehouse that you can make in your home that will take away minimal gaming time. I'll also put spins on the recipes for people who are trying or wanting to change their eating habits (i.e. gluten-free, low carb).
So in honor of starting this new endeavor my first recipe unveiled will be one that everyone can [should] enjoy - Chili! Stay tuned!
